Sendang Senjoyo tak lepas dari Legenda Joko Tingkir.

Secara administratif Senjoyo berada di wilayah Kabupaten Semarang, namun lokasi geografisnya sangat dekat dengan Kota Salatiga. 

Sendang Senjoyo tak lepas dari Legenda Joko Tingkir. Konon, air sendang yang biasanya tenang tiba-tiba menyembur deras. Jika dibiarkan bisa terjadi banjir. Akhirnya Joko Tingkir memotong rambut gondrongnya untuk menyaring mata air sendang hingga air mengucur bening sampai hari ini. Sedangkan nama Senjoyo atau Sanjaya, berasal dari kata Panembahan Senopati Senjaya atau Sobrah Jaya, nama lain dari Joko Tingkir. Singkat cerita rakyat tentang Senjoyo dan Joko Tingkir.

Hingga kini, masyarakat sekitar memanfaatkan air sendang untuk kepentingan minum dan industri. Banyak terpasang pipa besi dari PDAM Pemkot Salatiga, PDAM Kabupaten Semarang, serta sebuah instansi militer
